Kung Fu Kitchen
About this series
I’ve produced is the mini documentary series Kung Fu Kitchen, which explores the well-known Chinese chain restaurant, voted New York's best steamed buns and hand-pulled restaurant.
I produced and filmed 5 episodes of the series about the owner and the chef of the restaurant, Peter Song, an actor who immigrated from China, determined to bring authentic Northern Chinese cuisine to the States. I was honored to make these inspirational documentaries about Peter’s life.
Special Event
During this experience, I would carry my camera and follow Peter’s daily life, documenting his hard work and learning about his passion for food and his journey as an immigrant determined to open a restaurant and become a celebrity chef.
Travel Vlog
To better understand Peter’s passion in life and to produce an inspiring narrative, I also documented his life experiences with his friend explore New York City and introduce New York culture to broader audiences.
Social Media Video
Social media video is a unique way to create narratives to communicate audiences. Peter invited to different cultural events to promote Chinese food culture. Documented these events and create videos for social media is a way to promote stories and reach out more audiences.
Throughout the filming process, I gained a lot of experience, which improved my technical skills as a director and editor. I learned how to position the camera, frame a shot, use different lenses and choose particular angles. I also learned to navigate the relationship between the camera and the documentary’s subject.
